About the Commission

The Longmeadow Historic District was established in 1973. It includes the Longmeadow Green and surrounding areas, including the Town Hall, and the old section of the cemetery (a precinct map (PDF) showing the exact boundaries can be viewed at the Office of the Town Clerk.)

The purpose of the Longmeadow Historic District is to preserve the unique tapestry of the historic areas and to assure the preservation of its historic values to the community.

Certificate of Appropriateness

Any property owner in the district must apply for a certificate of appropriateness before making any alterations to property in the District, that is visible from a public way. The Historic District Commission is an appointed board whose responsibility it is to approve or deny those applications.

Applications need to be submitted electronically by noon 15 days before a scheduled meeting in order for them to be reviewed at that time. Meetings are currently scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.
